Technology of the Ultimate. Convenience of a clincher. Directly inspired from the Ultimate, the Cosmic Carbon SLR is the new Mavic reference in aero clincher wheels. A redesigned 52mm carbon/ aluminum rim reduces weight by 20 grams and the same R2R carbon spoke design as the Ultimate make this wheel the perfect blend of Aerodynamics, lightweight, stiffness and ease-of-use.
One of the lightest aero clincher wheels
12 K carbon flanges bonded on new 20g lighter alloy rim extrusion
Carbon spokes
Extralight hub design thanks low stress R2R spoke design
High aerodynamics to slice through the air
52 mm deep rim with elliptical sidewalls
Aero shaped spokes and hidden nipples
Smooth hubs thanks to R2R spoke design reduce frontal drag
Convenience of alloy rim

Technologies:
FTS-L - Force Transfer System Light
The ‘FTS Nose’ is an extension of the hub body that goes inside the freewheel body. The contact zone between the pawl and the FTS Nose is reinforced by 2 stainless steel inserts, which allows for manufacturing an all aluminium, mono-piece hub body. The pawls are centered exactly in the middle of the freewheel body.
ISM - Inter Spoke Milling
Since the rim wall between each spoke hole is subjected to very little stress, it is possible to mill it to save weight. The rim is CNC machined, leaving just the necessary material to obtain the best weight/rigidity/durability ratio. A Mavic® multi-patented exclusive concept (US 6 402 256).
Maxtal
Exclusive alloy developed specifically for Mavic by Pechiney Alcan Group, for rim manufacturing and optimizing alloy characteristics vs. that specific use.
QRM+ - Qualité Roulements Mavic® Plus
Sealed cartridge bearings including a specific high precision adjustment ring. Precisely adjusted to the hub, they participate to the lateral rigidity due to an optimized positionning,
R2R - Rim 2 Rim
The continuous carbon fibre spoke joins one side of the rim to the opposite one, crossing the centre of the wheel through the hub flanges. Where a normal wheel uses 2 spokes, thus 4 spoke ends, R2R allows the use of only one spoke, thus 2 spoke ends. The spoke construction and assembly to the hub is protected by Mavic patents.
SUP - Soudé Usiné Process
After bending, the rim joint is arc welded. The welded seam is then milled for a smooth finish.
UB Control - Usiné Brut Control
The sidewalls of the rim are milled with a diamond point on a digitally controlled machine after assembly and anodization,
